Take Me Out to the Suns’ Game!
It’s as American as apple pie. For generations, sports fans young and old have loved the thrill of a great baseball game. From little league to the major leagues, fans have passed the Cracker Jack and root, root, root for the home team. In Jacksonville, Florida, it’s no exception.
Catching a baseball game in Jacksonville is a thrill that cannot be missed. The Suns, The Double-AA Florida Marlins affiliate, call Jacksonville home. They’ve been playing in Jacksonville since 1961 and in 2010 they took home the Southern League Championship.
From April to September you can catch the Jacksonville Suns taking on opposing teams from around the country. The Marlins themselves made the trip to Jacksonville for the 2010 season opener on the Jacksonville Suns’ home field, the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, and the Suns prevailed, taking down the MLB team.
A day at the grounds is a fun and affordable way to spend time with friends and family. Season-long promotions like Tuesday’s Fifty-Cent Family Feast, Thursday Night Throwdown featuring dollar drafts and Friday night fireworks show after the game are a hit among locals and visitors alike.
The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville is located in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville. Just off the Mathews and Hart Bridge expressways, getting to the field is quick and easy. Plus, the Baseball Grounds’ great location means you can enjoy all the fun Downtown Jacksonville has to offer while catching a great game of baseball.
Swing into Downtown Jacksonville for a bite to eat at any of the amazing restaurants located in Jacksonville urban core. From tasty tacos to elegant bistros, you’ll find the perfect pregame fare just blocks from the stadium. Starting your evening out with a visit to one of Jacksonville’s delicious Downtown restaurants is a great way to turn your game-watching experience into an even more memorable event.
While it may be tough to turn your attention away from the action once you get to the game, do not miss the history exhibit at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. It has historic photographs of baseball in northeastern Florida, and is a really neat addition to the park as a whole. The ball field is also located right across the street from Old Saint Andrew’s church, which gives you a great view of classic Jacksonville architecture while you enjoy a great game of ball.
