This past May, Sports Illustrated labeled Jacksonville with this moniker leading up to one of the PGA TOUR’s greatest golf events, THE PLAYERS Championship. Often-called the "fifth major," the event brings together the world’s greatest golfers vying for the crystal trophy on a world-class course, TPC Sawgrass, THE PLAYERS Stadium Course.
Jacksonville was granted this well-said accolade given this high-profile event, but also for the sheer fact that we are home to over 1,220 holes of golf, several TOUR players and caddies, PGA TOUR Headquarters and World Golf Hall of Fame.
Today, our destination has taken the excitement of golf one step further. On the lawn of the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse, it was announced that the city will be home to a new tournament, the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open, which will be on the Nationwide Tour annually beginning in October 2010 at TPC Sawgrass, Dye’s Valley Course, the sister course to the Stadium Course.
As PGA TOUR pro and former Nationwide player Jim Furyck stated, the Nationwide Tour, which is owned and operated by the PGA TOUR, presents "the future stars of our game." Furyck is based in the Jacksonville-area and was on hand for today’s event. In fact, 65 percent of PGA TOUR titles came from players who used to be on the Nationwide Tour. WHOO HOO!!!

While the dates next October are still uncertain, the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open will just before the final championship for the Nationwide Tour, so expect to see a majority of Tour players vying to be in the Top 25 who go onto PGA TOUR play.

It's cool to create a backyard habitat for bees and hummingbirds and butterflies, and is pretty amazing how much life just a small butterfly garden can have. We went to talk to expert Mark from Treehill Nature Center in Jacksonville Florida. Treehill is known for its yearly butterfly festival and Mark knows what plants you need to use.
