An East Coast Version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Growing up, I always wanted to be an actress. While I had a wild imagination and made up plays which I performed for my family or anyone who would pay attention, I began my thespian "career" at the age of 7 at The Little Children’s Theatre in Charlotte. I took drama classes throughout my childhood and briefly studied theatre in college. This passion conjured up dreams of winning an Oscar or walking on the red carpet.
Last night, I had a just east of Hollywood experience at The Florida Theatre with the unveiling of the first phase of their "Bricks and Bronze Stars" capital campaign. Complete with a red carpet, news cameras and lights flashing on the marquee, the crowds watched as a covering was lifted from the sidewalk in front of the original box office to reveal a 43 named stars…Jacksonville’s version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
I am sure that the past Vaudevillians, who performed on this stage in it early years, were proud! The Florida Theatre is the perfect location for this tribute to early Hollywood traditions as it still maintains its 1920s "Picture Palace" appeal from the Mediterranean-revival architecture to the brightly painted arch above the stage and seats.
The only thing to make it complete would have been my name flashing in the marquee.

It's cool to create a backyard habitat for bees and hummingbirds and butterflies, and is pretty amazing how much life just a small butterfly garden can have. We went to talk to expert Mark from Treehill Nature Center in Jacksonville Florida. Treehill is known for its yearly butterfly festival and Mark knows what plants you need to use.
