Jacksonville's Friendly Skies
Jacksonville has been referred to as "a best kept secret." That'll change when passengers flying Southwest Airlines get a visual treat in their February issue of Southwest Airlines Spirit. Jacksonville is featured in a 20-page series of articles showcasing why the city is a great place to live, work and play.
From a visitor's perspective, the feature invites readers to "Meet Jacksonville" by highlighting Jacksonville's vibrant history, arts and culture, golf, parks and beaches and special events as well as where to eat and sleep when visiting the River City. Readers can also learn about business and economic growth, health care and quality of life.
I would have to say that people will definitely get a sense of the city from the magazine. I mean, there are people who didn't know that Jacksonville was where many young, talented architects got their start after a devastating fire destroyed the city in 1901 or that it was the "Winter Film Capital of the World" before Hollywood existed. Get immersed in the content and imagery and you might feel as though you are kayaking in Jacksonville's 45,000-acre Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve or experiencing the funky and lively scene of Riverside's Five Points.
Even residents may find something they didn't know about Jacksonville! And, with another feature set to be published in the March issue of Delta Sky, the secret will be out, courtesy of 30,000 feet above the ground.
Not flying in February? Check out the Southwest Airlines' Jacksonville feature online throughout the rest of 2009.
